Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay have split after becoming an item on ITV2's Love Island ITV

Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies have announced their split just five months after winning the hugely popular ITV2 show Love Island.

The couple have blamed hectic work schedules for the collapse of their relationship.

A joint statement released by Cetinay, 21 and Davies, 20 reads: "With sadness, we've decided to separate. We fell in love in the villa and want to thank all the fans of the show for supporting us. Our schedules made it difficult. We'll remain good friends."

The news of the break-up comes after rumours about the former TV sweethearts constantly squabbling over various issues started surfacing. They even blocked each other on social media last week.

"They've been at each other's necks for the past month. They've clashed over the smallest things. It's also been very hard for them to see each other with their hectic schedule. They tried to make it work but realised they want different things," the Sun quoted a source as saying.

Cetinay had earlier revealed that the two began facing relationship problems not long after they left the reality show, in which they won £50,000 prize money. They had been sharing a home in Essex.

He told the Sun: "When Love Island finished there was so much pressure and then trying to juggle a relationship, it hasn't been easy. We aren't perfect all the time but we do talk about things; we communicate with each other."

He added: "It is hard with the media. I am a really sensitive person. People are going to have opinions and it is hard. I try to walk away from it. Not everyone is going to like me – not everyone is going to think we're the perfect couple, we know we're not."

While Cetinay, who will next be seen on ITV's Dancing On Ice next year, had previously said that although the couple would not be marrying anytime soon, they had planned a Christmas vacation together.

"I'm not going to be asking Amber to marry me yet but I am taking her away on a surprise holiday. I want to take her to Center Parcs for Christmas – what do you think? They have quad bikes and zip wires – it'll be fun," he had revealed in an interview with the Sun.

Just a few days ago, Davies had tweeted about looking towards the future and moving on.
