Man of Steel 2, or Batman vs Superman as it's tentatively titled, is stealing the thunder from Spider Man who is all set to swing into theatres in just a few weeks.
According to a Design & Trend report, a lot of attention paid recently to superhero films has been focused on the Man of Steel sequel despite the film's 2016 release date.
To address that, The Amazing Spider Man 2 director Marc Webb decided to give Spidey a little boost by taking a jab at its DC counterpart, Superman.
In a new interview with MTV, Webb claimed that Spider Man has superpowers that put him in a league of his own.
"He obviously has great strength ... But what's really great about Spider-Man are a few things that make him different from other superheroes...There's an emotional component to the superhero. It's not even super-heroism. It's something we all can have, something we all have the capacity to have."
"Superman and Thor have great strength and they use that to great effect," he added. "But Spider Man saves people."
The comments made by Webb, even though bold, are not necessarily superfluous, notes ComicBook.
After all, in Man of Steel, Superman's destructive battle with Zod caused catastrophic damage to Metropolis, endangering the lives of innocent bystanders. The sequence received a great amount of criticism from fans worldwide.
It remains to be seen whether Webb's comments would help Spider Man gain more fans.
The Amazing Spider Man 2 is due to be released in the UK on 18 April 2014.
