Manchester City footballer Bersant Celina has been given a driving ban and fined £2,625 after he pleaded guilty to drink driving.

The 19-year-old midfielder was caught one and half times over the legal limit behind the wheel of his Mercedes after his girlfriend gave him up to police.

The Manchester Evening News reported Celina and his girlfriend had an argument at night club 'Club Liv' early on Sunday, 7 August, when he was stopped driving the luxury car from Great Northern Warehouse onto Watson Street.

Manchester magistrates' court heard that the football star's girlfriend followed him on foot, calling police who arrived at the scene at 3.30am. They said they could smell alcohol on his breath as they spoke to him.

Celina, a Kosvo international, was arrested and found to have 57mg of alcohol on his breath. The legal limit is 35mg.

The blues midfielder has been banned from driving for a year and ordered to pay £255 in costs on top of his £2,625 fine.

Celina was picked for City's pre-season tour of China and will head to Dutch side FC Twente on a season-long loan.
