Celebrated Singer Found 'Tied Up' at the Bottom of His Swimming Pool in 'Suspicious' Death
A musician celebrating a new creative chapter leaves behind a grieving family and unanswered questions

Venezuelan singer and pianist Gustavo Enrique Ormo, known as Gus Ormo, was found dead in his swimming pool in Weston, Florida, on Friday, 16 October 2026. Emergency radio communications reportedly described someone in the water as 'tied up.' Investigators have not confirmed that the musician was restrained.
Broward Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a reported possible drowning at around 9am. Emergency crews went to a property on Quail Roost Drive, where they found Ormo submerged in the backyard pool. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff's office called the incident suspicious and assigned homicide and crime scene investigators. Their involvement does not establish that a killing occurred. A cause of death had not been announced in the reports available on Sunday, 18 October.
What Investigators Know About Gus Ormo's Death
The question of restraints arose from an emergency radio transmission, rather than a public finding by police. According to the Miami Herald, a dispatcher said the person in the pool was 'tied up.' The Broward Sheriff's Office did not confirm that account.
Footage of the property has raised further questions. A WPLG helicopter recorded what appeared to be a rope lying across the patio and extending into the water, the Miami Herald reported. Telemundo separately described objects resembling cords or hoses in aerial images of the scene.
Authorities have not identified those objects or determined whether they had anything to do with Ormo's death. The footage does not establish that he was bound. Nor does the dispatcher's description, on its own, demonstrate that a crime occurred.
Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis said its homicide and crime scene units were examining the incident. Ormo's body was taken to the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office, where the cause of death remained pending, CBS News Miami reported.
The investigation has left Ormo's family with little information. His sister, Antonieta Ormo, confirmed his death to CBS News Miami and said relatives knew little about what had happened. The circumstances of his final hours have not been publicly established.
Reporting has not identified who made the emergency call, how long Ormo was in the water or whether anyone else was present when responders arrived.
Neighbours described him as someone who generally kept to himself at the Weston property, which public records indicate he had owned for several years.
Gus Ormo Released a Personal Piano Album Before His Death
Barely two weeks before his death, Ormo was promoting AGAPE, a six-track instrumental album. An announcement published under his name on 1 October described a project developed over 12 years, with piano performances replacing the vocals familiar from his romantic songs.
Its tracks included 'Claroscuro', 'Latidos' and 'Alma.' The release presented the record as an exploration of emotional connection and unconditional love. Ormo said the album was intended to help listeners experience feelings that everyday life could suppress.
'It's my way to give back to music all it has given me,' he said in the announcement. Those words offer a direct account of what the project meant to him, without explaining anything about his death.
The release also recalled his July performance of 'Claroscuro' at Next Venue in Doral, Florida. His earlier work included Alquimia and the romantic single '100 Suspiros.' The announcement described collaborations with musicians Moto Fukushima and Ed Calle.
Ormo's ties to Venezuela remained part of his public identity. At a January red-carpet event in Aventura, Florida, he spoke about his career and his Venezuelan roots, according to CBS News Miami. He had also written a tribute to his homeland exploring reconciliation and unity.
For his family, the questions concern something far more immediate than the musician's public career. The sheriff's office has yet to say whether a crime took place, while the medical examiner's findings have not been released.
