Manchester United have suffered a major injury blow ahead of their Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday as Radamel Falcao suffered a kick during a training session on Friday and is doubtful for the game.

Louis van Gaal has confirmed that the striker is injured, but insisted that the current injury is not related to the knee injury he suffered with AS Monaco last season, that kept him out of the World Cup finals.

The Colombian is yet to complete a full 90 minutes on the pitch for United and this injury could fail to see him do it even if he recovers for the game against the Blues.

The Red Devils manager is yet to determine if a scan is necessary to gauge the extent of the injury to his player.

"On Friday morning he got a kick so we have to see if he is fit enough. It is not a knee problem. He had a knee problem but not any more," Van Gaal said, as quoted by the Express.

"He has been training every day. We have had to build him up. Only on Friday did he get a kick. We have to wait and see whether he needs a scan and whether the injury is good or not so good... but it's not his knee," the Dutchman added.

This news will come as a big blow to the Old Trafford club as they are already without Wayne Rooney, who will complete the last of his three-match ban following the red card he picked up against West Ham United.

On the other hand, Robin van Persie has been struggling for form and has only scored two goals this season and there have been calls to drop the Dutch striker.

However, with the news of Falcao's injury, the pressure will be on the former Arsenal man to step up and lead the line against the Blues.

On a brighter note, club-record signing Angel di Maria and Spaniard Ander Herrera have been passed fit and will start the game on Sunday.
