Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal faces a new selection headache ahead of the FA Cup game against Cambridge United on Friday 23 January after confirming Robin van Persie is set to return to action, while Radamel Falcao and James Wilson are also available.

With Van Persie out of action during the recent Premier League victory over Queens Park Rangers due to a minor injury, the Dutch boss restored the Colombia international to his starting line-up just a week after leaving him out of the squad for the Southampton game, where United lost 1-0.

Even though Falcao failed to add more goals to his tally, despite being gifted a number of chances to score during the QPR game, Van Gaal defended the striker's performance, suggesting he will have more opportunities to prove his worth in the future.

But the manager has Wilson to consider too, after the 19-year-old striker made an impressive impact at Loftus Road, coming off the bench in the second half to score the second goal of the match.

Van Gaal also confirmed Luke Shaw is ready to return to action, while Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans will miss the game.

"We have to wait until training but Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are out for sure," he told MUTV.

"Robin van Persie is available, Luke Shaw is also available."

Meanwhile, the manager will have to decide whether to hand Victor Valdes the spot in goal ahead of David de Gea.

When questioned about reports claims the new signing will make his debut at Cambridge, he said: "I find it unbelievable how the media can write that. I don't want to say anything about my line-up until three quarters of an hour before the game."
