Iran Nuclear deal and Vienna talks

Crude oil prices hit by the US nuclear deal with Iran and house-price inflation numbers caused the FTSE 100 to lag on 14 July.

"House-builders Taylor Wimpey, Barratt and Persimmon were among the FTSE 100's biggest fallers after Bank of England governor Mark Carney told MPs the point at which interest rates may begin to rise is moving closer," said AJ Bell investment director Russ Mould.

"House-builders have been among the biggest winners from rates which have been at a record low for six years. Those days look to be coming to an end although there is no suggestion that rates will return to the historic levels seen before the financial crisis."

The bank left rates at 0.5% during an announcement earlier in July. The Bank of England announces rates monthly and its Monetary Policy Committee will issue the bank's next quarterly forecast for growth and inflation in August.

The FTSE 100 gained 0.23% to close out 14 July at 6,753.75.

Shares of Johnston Press sank after the publisher issued a warning that its first half year profits would be lower than expected after advertisers' spending plans were scaled back around the uncertainty of May's general election.
