Overview

Marquez will be looking to clinch his sixth consecutive German GP title, having won only one race so far in the season. Competitor and former World No 1 Valentino Rossi will start the race in the sixth spot, after an abject performance in qualifying.

Stefan Bradl was out of the reckoning with a fractured scaphoid at Assen and was replaced by Claudio Corti. Karel Abraham's foot injury at Catalunya has kept him out of action and he will be replaced by Honda test rider Hiroshi Aoyama.

Marquez led teammate Pedrosa by a meagre .292s, while third-placed Lorenzo was behind by .585 seconds in qualifying.
