Seems like 2016 is all about superhero films as Marvel and DC are basking in the glory of the success of movies such as Deadpool, Captain America: Civil War and Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Since the movies have been well received by fans, Universal Pictures is not far behind and will want to cash in on the trend to bring back the legends of Egyptian mummies in a reboot of The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise.

Recently, the production house released the synopsis of the movie teasing another thrilling tale from a new world of gods and monsters. Tom Cruise will play the lead character, who will be based out of London. But soon he will be thrown into a life-changing adventure as an ancient queen will wake up from the dead and will seek justice for the unlawful death she endured.

The synopsis of the movie reads as follows:

Fans of Cruise – one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood – are quite excited to see him in action after his Mission Impossible sequel. To add to their excitement and the storyline of the Mummy sequel, Russell Crowe will be joining the cast at Universal's monster movie franchise.

"I'm gonna play Dr. Henry Jekyll. It's very interesting, what they're gonna do with that stuff. I've had a couple of chats about it with the director [Alex Kurtzman]. I've known Tom Cruise since 1992, or something like that," Crowe was quoted as saying by Collider.

The actor also said that the story of the upcoming movie, which is being directed by Alex Kurtzman, is "fantastic".

"How they've pulled all of this stuff forward into a contemporary world and how they're building it out from there, and how all of the different characters interweave into each other's stories, it's fantastic."

The Mummy reboot will hit theatres on 9 June 2017.
