Google's next Nexus iteration is one gadget that has got people across the world talking about it, even before its official release. Firstly, people across the world are eagerly waiting for the Nexus 6 (expected to be branded and released as Nexus X), to test out the expected Android L (with Material Design) interface within the high-end smartphone.

Secondly, with smartphone giant Motorola expected to supply Nexus X handsets, the manufacturer is already said to be giving a high-end smartphone tentatively codenamed 'Motorola Shamu' (or Moto S) the works currently, which has increased anticipation levels. Moto S is highly expected to be launched as Nexus X during the Halloween season this year.

Now, according to a new report that further hints at the late October-early November launch date for Nexus 6, the smartphone is expected to land on wireless carrier Verizon which could put the high-end device up for sale starting fall 2014.

The new report published in Pocketnow quotes inside sources while mentioning about the Nexus 6 (aka Nexus X) being offered by Verizon.

However, the report does not mention about the general availability or the pricing of Nexus X on Verizon, as of now.

Nexus X on Verizon could give people something to cheer about as far as smartphone availability and carrier-contracts are concerned. This is because Verizon did not offer any of Google's recent Nexus range of devices, be it either the Nexus 4 or Nexus 5 smartphones.

The last Nexus smartphone offered by Verizon was the now legacy Galaxy Nexus that was announced way back in 2011.

As far as the technical specifications of Nexus X are concerned, nothing official has surfaced at this juncture, but taking into account earlier reports that speculate the hardware aspects of the smartphone, Nexus X is expected to incorporate the following key tech specs:

  • 5.9in display
  • Android L operating system; straight out of the box
  • 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor
  • 13 MP rear camera
  • 2 MP secondary camera
  • 3GB RAM
  • 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC and microUSB connectivity

Nexus X is expected to incorporate a large 5.9in display, and run Google's Android L (showcased at the company's IO conference) straight out of the box.

Other tech specs of Nexus X could include a 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB RAM, 13 MP primary camera with a 2MP secondary camera, and connectivity options like 4G-LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC and microUSB.

Also, as Google is known to launch its most important products -- both software and hardware -- during the fall every year, it should come as no surprise if we get to witness the Nexus X and Android L being officially launched together.

As for the pricing aspects of Nexus X, a recent listing on Indian import-export portal Zauba lists the per-unit price of Motorola Shamu (expected to be called Moto S/Nexus X) bearing model number XT1112, as INR 34,982 that roughly translates to USD579 and £349 respectively.

However, with Nexus X now rumoured to hit Verizon, the wireless carrier can be expected to offer the premier smartphone under various customised carrier contracts at a comparatively lower price.
