NFL Suspends Jeff Seeman, Adrian Hill After Week 4 Incidents as NFLPA Calls Seeman's Conduct 'Unacceptable'
Seeman received a two-game ban after an apparent exchange with Trey McBride, while Hill was suspended for one game following a confrontation with Eric Wilson

NFL line judge Jeff Seeman has been given a two-game suspension and referee Adrian Hill a one-game ban for 'unprofessional conduct toward a player' in separate Week 4 incidents, as the NFL Players Association branded Seeman's behaviour 'unacceptable'.
The NFL confirmed the discipline on Monday, saying both suspensions were issued by vice-president of officiating Ramon George after reviewing footage from Sunday's games.
Jeff Seeman Suspended After McBride Exchange
Seeman's suspension follows a widely shared exchange with Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride during the Cardinals' 36-24 loss to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, 6 October.
The incident occurred with just under five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, when Arizona faced third-and-2 while trailing New York 27-24.
Quarterback Jacoby Brissett threw towards McBride, who was contacted by Giants cornerback Andru Phillips before the ball arrived. No pass interference or illegal contact penalty was called.
McBride then appeared to complain to Seeman about the no-call. Television footage showed Seeman responding angrily and appearing to swear at the Cardinals tight end.
The footage does not clearly capture the words, so the precise language cannot be independently established from the video alone. The NFL, however, reviewed the incident and suspended Seeman for two games.
The NFL Players Association had called for accountability after the footage circulated. Executive director JC Tretter described the official's conduct as 'unacceptable' and argued that officials should be held to the same standards as players.
The Giants went on to win 36-24, but the focus after the game shifted quickly to the exchange between McBride and Seeman.
Adrian Hill's Clash With Eric Wilson
Hill's one-game suspension came after a separate incident during the Minnesota Vikings' 15-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins.
The play had been stopped for a neutral-zone infraction when Dolphins running back Ollie Gordon II inadvertently knocked Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson into Hill, sending the official to the ground.
Wilson then tried to help Hill up. Hill got to his feet and gestured angrily for the linebacker to move away.
The collision itself appeared to be accidental, and Wilson later played down the confrontation. He said he apologised to Hill and described the situation as something he found funny after the fact.
The NFL nevertheless determined that Hill's subsequent conduct towards a player warranted a one-game suspension. The league's stated basis was unprofessional conduct, rather than the accidental collision itself.
NFL Holds Officials To Same Standard
The two suspensions put the conduct of NFL officials under unusual scrutiny, particularly because officials have authority over players during games and are expected to manage heated situations.
The Seeman incident drew the stronger reaction because the apparent profanity was directed at a player who was protesting a no-call.
The NFLPA's response added pressure on the league to address the behaviour. Tretter also argued that players are routinely held accountable when the roles are reversed, making the league's response particularly significant.
Hill's case was different. The incident began with an accidental collision after the whistle, but the league still determined that his reaction crossed its disciplinary line.
Both cases therefore centre on the same issue: how officials conduct themselves when games become heated.
The NFL's decision also shows that disciplinary standards apply to officials as well as players. For Seeman, that means a two-game suspension following his exchange with McBride. For Hill, it means missing one game after his confrontation with Wilson.
With both penalties confirmed, the league has stated that officials are expected to maintain professional conduct even during the most emotional moments of an NFL game.
