As two of pop's leading ladies, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, traded harsh words, reality star Kim Kardashian somehow found herself dragged into the middle of the Twitter row on 21 July 2015.

The spat kicked off shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards nominations were announced and Minaj, 32, discovered that the controversial video for her 2014 single Anaconda had been snubbed from the video of the year category.

Kardashian, who was in Paris at the time, began sharing photos from her shoot for Vogue Spain on social media, including one that was captioned: "Imma let you finish but..." in reference to the famous words her husband Kanye West uttered when he interrupted Swift's acceptance speech at the VMAs in 2009.

However, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star insists that her posts had nothing to do with the pop feud, telling her Twitter followers:

Venting her frustrations, the Moment 4 Life singer tweeted:

Minaj then continued her rant about the awards stereotyping the type of artist that earns nominations, which many perceived to be aimed at Shake It Off singer Swift and her Bad Blood music video.

It is possible that Minaj was referencing Swift, 25, breaking the record for the most-viewed video on VEVO within 24 hours for her single Bad Blood, a title previously held by Minaj for her Anaconda clip.

After fans began pitting the two ladies against each other, Minaj shut down speculation that her tweets were aimed at the Blank Space singer, later adding:

Former country singer Swift responded to Minaj's comments with her own tweets, even inviting her to join her on stage at the awards ceremony if she wins any of her nine nominations.

The 2015 MTV VMAs will take place on 30 August at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
