Game of Thrones season 7
Kit Harington as Jon Snow from HBO's Game of Thrones HBO

While Netflix's The Crown and star-studded Big Little Lies have received several nods, not a single actor from the hit HBO drama Game Of Thrones has made it to the Golden Globes 2018 nominations.

The 75th annual list, as decided by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, was announced on Monday (11 December) and like always the list includes some major snubs... and surprises.

From the time actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus started playing Selina Meyer in Veep, she has been nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy each year, except in 2018.

Veep is also off the Best Comedy list that includes newcomers like The Marvelous Mrs Maisel and SMILF.

And it looks like the HFPA is quite fond of NBC's revival series Will & Grace: Eric McCormack makes it to the list and the show has been nominated for Best Comedy. But the same can't be said for co-stars Debra Messing, Sean Hayes, and Megan Mullally, who have been ignored.

Another not-so-surprising entry in this year's nominations is Freddie Highmore, who wowed critics with his performance in the ABC medical drama The Good Doctor. However, more traditional names in the category like Mr Robot's Rami Malek and The Americans' Matthew Rhys have once been again given the miss.

Speaking of drama, Sterling K Brown's stellar performance as Randall in This Is Us has earned him a place in the Best Actor category, but surprisingly neither Milo Ventimiglia nor Mandy Moore have got nominated.

Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot starred in DC's first female-fronted superhero movie Warner Bros

On the big screen, DC's first female-fronted superhero blockbuster Wonder Woman made waves this year, yet the film has been snubbed at the Globes. Both lead actress Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins are missing from the nominations, sparking a furore from fans – especially over the lack of any women in the Best Director category.

Instead, the Globes nominations have chosen to honour scandal-ridden movie All the Money In the World, whose last minute finessing included Christopher Plummer replacing Kevin spacey, who has been at the centre of a alleged sexual assault scandal.

Lady Bird's Greta Gerwig, Get Out's Jordan Peele, and Call Me by Your Name's Luca Guadagnino have also been snubbed in the Best Director of a Motion Picture category.
