Overview

Djokovic made it through to the second round of the 2014 French Open after defeating Joao Sousa on Monday. The Serbian did so without dropping a single set and won, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4, after playing for 110 minutes.

However, the game will be fondly remembered by the ball boy who shared a priceless moment with the world no 2, when rain halted play for a brief period. The 27-year-old invited the lad holding his umbrella to sit with him and struck up a conversation while sharing an energy drink.

Meanwhile, Chardy sent 94th ranked Daniel Gimeno-Traver packing, 7-5, 6-2, 6-2, in 97 minutes on Sunday.

Djokovic has failed to make it beyond the second round of this tournament only once in his career while making his French Open debut in 2005. The six-time Grand Slam winner is a strong favourite to make it to the next stage and defeating the Frenchman ranked 40 places below him should not be much of a difficult task unless his opponent plans on pulling off a heist.

Whoever emerges on top from this battle is destined to face the winner between Tobias Kamke and Marin Cilic in the third round.

Head-to-Head

Djokovic holds a comfortable 8-0 lead over Chardy in overall meetings, which includes three clashes in Grand Slam events.
