Overview

Djokovic took his overall winning tally in the French Open to 38 after beating Jeremy Chardy in round two on Wednesday. The world no 2 needed just 92 minutes to dismiss the Frenchman ranked 40 places below him in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.

Meanwhile, Cilic, outplayed 28-year-old German, Tobias Kamke in the second round in a battle lasting two hours and two minutes. The Croatian won the first set, 6-3, but witnessed a reversal by the same score line in the set that followed.

However, there was no upset on the cards for the 6' 6 inches tall, world no 26, as he won the third and fourth sets, 6-3, 6-0, to secure his place among the last 32.

The 27-year-old Serbian has never lost a single game against Cilic and will be hoping to keep that record intact.

Djokovic will also be wary that he was eliminated at this very stage of the tournament in 2009 and will be hoping to prevent a repeat of the same.

The winner from this third round clash will put his skills to test against either French hopeful Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or 22nd seed Jerzy Janowicz in the pre-quarterfinals.

Head-to-Head

Djokovic holds a staggering 8-0 lead over Cilic in overall meetings, which includes one clash in a Grand Slam event.
