These are the first images of the USAF military jet that has crashed in flames in to a field near Spalding in Lincolnshire.

The plane, which reportedly was a $60m hi-tech F15 fighter, crashed from the sky at around 3.30pm on Wednesday 8 October.

The US military has launched an investigation in the incident. A US Defense spokesman said the jet was a US Air Force jet.

Lincolnshire police said the pilot was safe. Broadcaster NBC reported he suffered minor injuries.

A cordon has been set up around the crash site over fears toxic plumes of smoke could be rising from the wreckage.

Members of the public raised the alarm after spotting an aircraft in trouble.
