Prince Charles has declined an invitation to appear in a celebrity selfie.

Imitating Ellen Degeneres's Oscar selfie, that became a Twitter phenomenon, Dynasty star Joan Collins attempted to coerce the Prince into joining her own celebrity line-up.

The royal was attending the Prince's Trust and Samsung Celebrate Success awards, where he was joined by a host of British celebrities for a formal group photo.

He was then seen laughing with Collins as she tried to convince him to join her for the selfie.

A source said: "The prince politely declined and moved on."

While Degeneres' selfie featured A list Hollywood stars such as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, Collin's selfie, captioned 'selfie support' included Phillip Schofield, Sam Bailey, Pixie Lott, Dominic West, Sir Ben Kingsley, Jools Holland, Jeremy Irons and Gabby Logan.

The Oscar version was retweeted a record-breaking 3.2million times causing Twitter to crash, while Collin's selfie only has 59 retweets.

The craze for celebrity selfies has spawned copycat versions featuring The Simpsons, Lego and The Muppets.

The Prince's Trust awards celebrate the achievements of young people who have triumphed in the adversity, suffering homelessness and drug addiction.

Celebrate Success is marking its 10th year of honouring the accomplishments of over 2,400 young people who have struggled against the odds and strived to better their lives.
