A TV show based on the Resident Evil franchise is in the planning stages Constantin Film Production

Resident Evil fans will be pleased to know that a TV series based on the popular gaming franchise is in the works.

According to Variety.com, the show is being created by German production company Constantin Films, and is set to launch after the final film has been released.

So far five films from the franchise, which stars Milla Jovovich as Alice, a woman with super-human capabilities after being transformed by a powerful virus (the "t-virus"), have been released.

Resident Evil: Final Chapter, the sixth and final instalment in the popular horror series, is in the process of being written.

It is not known whether the TV series will follow any stories from the Resident Evil universe or if any familiar faces from the movies will make appearances.

The Resident Evil films are the highest-grossing film series of all time based on a video game, having made £570m ($915m) in total, worldwide.
