Popular British parking app RingGo suffered an outage early Thursday leaving users unable to pay RingGo UK

Rush-hour mayhem ensued when popular British parking app RingGo, with over 21 million registered users, suffered an outage on Thursday, 22 January 2026. Real-time user reports from Downdetector surged to over 1,300 from around 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

UK's prominent parking app RingGo allows users to skip parking queues as it finds parking spots in over 17,000 UK locations from over 500 towns and cities via an app on their phone, where users can also set the amount of parking time they need and settle the bill. The outage, which rendered users unable to pay for parking, also left them with fears of being fined.

As a result, a number of RingGo customers took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their concerns over sanction possibilities, including calling out RingGo's customer support being unavailable when situations like this arise.

The app showed error messages on users' screens such as 'Looks like something went wrong processing your request. Try restarting the app. If the issue continues, delete and reinstall the app before trying again,' and 'Cannot connect to the server because it is too busy.'

Users Left Frustrated- RingGo's Swift Response

An X user expressed his frustration, asking RingGo to look into the situation as soon as possible lest users want to be settling huge tickets: '@RingGo_parking sort out your service. The app isnt working, when you ring the phone number it says its unavailable and the website login gives a 504 gateway time-out. How many people already getting massive parking fines today as a result of this!!!!'

Another user took to X to share screenshots of the app errors, asking if he would be sanctioned for being unable to settle his payment, 'Your app is not working. I have no other means of paying for parking. Will I now get a fine?'

According to users, they were unable to login to the app and use it to pay for their parking. User complaints have prompted the UK parking company to 'suspend parking enforcement until the issue is resolved,' per The Telegraph.

UK and Ireland at RingGo External Communications Manager George Chamberlain said service restoration is of highest priority to the company, 'We are currently experiencing a disturbance to our internal systems which is affecting the RingGo service.'

He also apologised for the mishap and shared the actions the company has taken, saying, 'We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause our customers. We have informed parking operators of the issue and asked them to suspend parking enforcement until the issue is resolved. Where available, Pay and Display machines remain operational. We will continue to share updates with our users. For more information please visit the ringGo.co.uk website.'

Swedish company Arrive (formerly EasyPark), which operates in over 20,000 cities in over 90 countries owns the cashless parking app, created in 2005. According to The Telegraph's report, RingGo's revenue in 2024 recorded £37.6 million ($50.48 million), while AA data stated that motorists in England recorded spending £2.3 billion ($3.09 billion) in council parks.

RingGo confirmed by noon that the disruption had been resolved and that it is looking into the situation in a statement that said, 'We will continue to closely monitor the situation and further investigate to make sure this does not happen again. We apologise for any inconvenience that this issue might have caused,' per Grand Pinnacle Tribune.
