Number two seed Roger Federer takes on number 12 seed Richard Gasquet in the quarter-final of the US Open on 9 September. The Swiss legend is looking for his 18th Grand Slam title, which has eluded him since he won the Wimbledon title in 2012.

Where to watch live

The game is set to start at 1am BST (10 September). Live coverage of the game will be available on Sky Sports 3 and Sky Sports 3 HD.

Overview

Federer booked his place in the quarter-finals with a win in straight sets over John Isner 7-6(0) 7-6(6), 7-5, without losing his serve. The five-time US Open winner struck 15 aces to take the game to the opposition who had made it very difficult for the veteran to take a clean lead.

The match against Gasquet will be his 46th appearance in a Grand Slam quarter-final. But Federer will be desperate to make further inroads after a disappointing outing at Wimbledon where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the final. Federer was a semi-finalist at the Flushing Meadows last year where he bowed out to Martin Cilic.

"It's a lot of fun to play in a night session match. I thought tonight was very special," Federer told the Labor Day Monday crowd. "John is one of the best servers in the game. The pace on the second serve is unreal. You just have to make sure you hold your own serve."

Meanwhile, Gasquet beat Czech Tomas Berdych to move into the last eight at Flushing Meadows. This is his first entry in a US Open quarter-final but the foundation was laid in Wimbledon where he reached the semi-finals, before being beaten by Federer. This is the third time the two players are meeting in a Grand Slam event with Federer winning the last two encounters with consummate ease.
