The body of a prominent Russian businessman found in a luxury Moscow apartment has reignited international interest in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Umar Dzhabrailov, a man who once moved in the highest echelons of both Russian politics and global high society, was found dead this week in what authorities are describing as an apparent suicide.

The discovery follows shortly after newly unsealed court documents detailed his intimate connection to Ghislaine Maxwell. It is worth noting that Dzhabrailov had reportedly attempted suicide five years prior.

Discovery of the Body Following the Epstein Document Leak

Russian authorities confirmed that Dzhabrailov died on Monday, 2 March 2026. His body was found with a gunshot wound to the head in the Vesper Tverskaya luxury residential complex in central Moscow. He was reportedly taken to a hospital around 3 am but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The timing of his death has drawn immediate scrutiny. It occurred just weeks after a fresh cache of legal papers from the Epstein investigation was made public, bringing his name to the forefront of renewed controversy.

In those documents, his relationship with Maxwell was described in starkly personal terms. He had referred to the now-convicted sex trafficker as his 'soulmate'. The revelation prompted renewed media scrutiny regarding his potential knowledge of the Epstein enterprise. Before his death, he had not publicly addressed the specific details contained within the unsealed files.

The scene at the apartment suggested a deliberate act, though a full forensic investigation is underway to rule out foul play. Dzhabrailov did not leave a suicide note. Sources claimed that he had attempted to take his life in 2020, as reports at the time indicated.

A separate report claimed his daughter, Alvina, denied that her father died by suicide, reportedly believing he was silenced due to his Epstein connection.

Intimate Correspondence With Ghislaine Maxwell Revealed

The recently surfaced files included letters and messages that painted a picture of a deep, years-long bond between the Russian businessman and Maxwell. In one exchange, he expressed a profound personal connection, writing that he wanted to take care of her.

'Dear Ghislaine, I'm back from London, planing [sic] 2 B in Moscow. Really want 2 C U, but I need 2 know exactly when U arive, cause I want 2 take care of U and arrange welcoming things. Wishing U all the best! Umar,' he wrote.

These communications have been of interest to legal teams seeking to map the full extent of Epstein's international reach. While no direct evidence in the released pages linked Dzhabrailov to criminal activity, the 'soulmate' label attracted significant scrutiny.

Following Maxwell's conviction for helping Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse underage girls, Dzhabrailov had spoken openly about his relationship with her.

'I knew Epstein. I was introduced to him by Ghislaine Maxwell, a soulmate of mine,' he said. 'But I never could have imagined that they were partners, that she was involved in finding those girls who are now all over the media. I regret that Ghislaine, the most charming woman, got a life sentence.'
