Selena Gomez has struck a major deal with Instagram to help the social media giant boost their level of engagement. The news comes following the singer's online popularity as one of her posts became the most-liked photo of all time on the picture-sharing site. It surpassed a record previously set by her former boyfriend Justin Bieber.
With 89 million plus followers, the 23-year-old singer will reportedly help Instagram compete against rivals such as Snapchat. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez will – as a part of the deal – post her videos on the site, which is owned by Facebook. Actor Kevin Hart is another celebrity who has been roped in by the site include.
The Kill Em With Kindness hitmaker was also one of the first celebrities to utilise Instagram's 60-second clip feature, according to the report. While, Gomez shared a clip of her as she worked on a new song in a studio, comedian Hart too joined the wagon and posted a video of a South African safari.
However, the pop singer's newfound social media status was not a work of any digital consultant. "It comes in a moment when I capture something happening, and I go, 'Oh, that would be great for Instagram. I should post it'," the singer said and added, "I know it's boring, but that's genuinely what I do."
The fact that the songstress' Instagram posts are that spontaneous might come as a surprise to fans, as in this digital-savvy age, almost every celebrity has a dedicated person to look on their social media accounts. "It wasn't my goal to be the most followed person," the Heart Wants What It Wants singer said. "It's my favorite social platform."
After a simple picture of the singer sipping on a bottle of Cola became a viral sensation; Gomez said, "I'm not sure there's a method to my madness."
