Selena Gomez will be taking some time off to deal with panic attacks she has been suffering of late. The Same Old Love hit-maker had revealed last year that she was suffering from lupus, which has now led to anxiety and depression.

The 24-year-old singer in a statement told People that she wanted to be healthy and happy, which is why she has decided to take a career break. The songstress has cancelled the remainder of her Revival World Tour, which was not supposed to end until 18 December 2016. She has also cancelled her upcoming performances in Paradise and Moncton in Canada.

"As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways," Gomez told People.

"I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues," she added.

In October 2015, Gomez told Billboard that she had to undergo chemotherapy to treat the disease.

"I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again," Gomez said.

The announcement comes two weeks after the singer got into a heated argument with her former boyfriend Justin Bieber over rumoured girlfriend Sofia Richie's photos the Sorry hit-maker shared on Instagram. The 22-year-old has deleted the images after the war of words with the songstress.

"If you can't handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol – it should be special between you two only. Don't be mad at your fans. They love you," Gomez wrote.
