Social media responds to the Duchess of Cambridge giving birth to a baby girl

The news that Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby girl has sent social media into a frenzy of well wishes.

The Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington, who is expecting her first child this year, said:

Awwwwe its a girl!!!!! How exciting!! Congratulations Will & Kate! #royalbaby #itsagirl

Comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar added:

Not to be left out, politicians on the campaign trail also posted their well wishes to the newly-born royal.

Prime Minister David Cameron said:

Earlier this morning, The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St Mary's Hospital in central London where a large crowd had gathered to catch a glimpse of the royals.
