Anthony claims his plea for medical intervention was met with cold indifference Unsplash

A 58-year-old man was arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while working at a McDonald's just outside Minneapolis. The man suffers from a life-threatening heart condition, having previously experienced heart failure.

Upon learning of his father's detention, his 17-year-old son, Anthony, bravely went to the facility to deliver his father's medication.

However, Anthony claims his plea for medical intervention was met with cold indifference: a federal agent allegedly 'laughed at my face' as he tried to hand over the life-saving pills.

ICE Agent 'Laughed'

The ICE agent reportedly laughed at the 17-year-old, who bravely went to the detention facility after hearing that his 58-year-old father, who sufferers a life-threatening heart condition, has been arrested at the McDonald's where he works.

A report of MS NOW, which has since gained traction online, shows the old man being arrested and escorted from his workplace. The news outlet has also talked to Anthony about what happened.

He said, 'I gave an ICE agent my dad's medicine, but I'm not sure if he got it because the ICE agent just smirked at me,' adding, 'he laughed at my face for bringing the medicine.'

Anthony also said that because of the behaviour of the ICE agent, he's not sure if the life-saving pills were delivered to his father, 'So, I'm not sure if he got it,' he said.

When asked how the agent's behaviour made him feel, Anthony said it left him fearing that his father would not receive the medicine.

He recalled, 'Like he wasn't gonna receive the medicine. Like I'm less.' He added, 'Like I'm not welcome in this community. Like I'm not supposed to be here.'

Anthony also said, 'I feel heartbroken, I feel alone. I just wish my dad would come home so he can be with my mom and my mom can stop crying at night,' the teenager shared.

'We just miss our dad—just like something's missing, like some parts of our heart missing because he's not here. It feels lonely in the house.'

Anthony came back into the detention facility walking arm in arm with lawyers and medical professionals and refused to leave until he is a hundred percent sure that his dad got the medicine.

The Times of India reported that the ICE agents assured Anthony that the medicine would be given to his 58-year-old father.

The Trump administration claims that ICE is only detaining the 'worst of the worst,' but Anthony said that his father has no criminal record and is just a hard-working man.

ICE Detains Immigrants With No Criminal Record

Anthony's father is among the many immigrants being detained despite having no criminal record—contradicting the claims of the Trump administration, which argued that its policies targeted 'criminal aliens' to protect America.

However, data from Trac Reports on 30 November 2025 contradicts the current administration's assertions that it is detaining the 'worst of the worst.'

The report shows that 48,377 of the 65,735 individuals held in ICE detention—73.6%—had no criminal convictions. The Cato Institute further noted that only 5% of those detained had violent convictions.
