PlayStation Says GTA 6 Plays Best on PS5 as Fans Debate Whether Xbox Is Being Sidelined
Limited-edition DualSense controllers and PlayStation-specific features give Sony's console a prominent role, without proving a technical advantage over Xbox

PlayStation is putting the PS5 at the centre of its GTA 6 launch campaign ahead of the game's 19 November release, highlighting console-specific features and new limited-edition DualSense controllers as players weigh which platform to choose.
Sony's messaging has also raised questions about the comparatively smaller spotlight on Xbox in the run-up to the release. Anticipation around GTA 6 has intensified with roughly two months remaining before launch.
Reports said that some US workers are already booking 19 November off, while recent PS5 Pro stock shortages have added to signs that players are preparing ahead of the release.
GTA 6 Marketing Pushes PS5 to the Fore
Sony's latest promotional move came through the PlayStation Blog, where it announced two limited-edition GTA 6 DualSense wireless controllers scheduled to launch alongside the game on 19 November.
One design is black and draws on Vice City's nightlife, while the white version is styled around beaches, pastel skies and the game's daytime setting.
Both controllers carry official Grand Theft Auto 6 branding and include a shimmering, colour-shifting finish, along with moulded palm-tree details. Sony has priced them at £74.99 in the UK and $84.99 in the US, with pre-orders now available.
The hardware is more than a cosmetic tie-in. Sony says GTA 6 will use the DualSense controller's haptic feedback to respond to in-game action, while the adaptive triggers will vary resistance during play.
The built-in speaker will also produce sounds during certain interactions, paired with haptic effects intended to make actions involving protagonists Jason and Lucia feel more tactile.
That emphasis helps explain why PS5 is receiving such a visible role in the game's pre-release marketing. It does not establish that the Xbox version will be technically inferior, and the supplied report does not cite evidence of reduced Xbox functionality.
It does show that Sony is attaching specific hardware features and branded accessories to the launch in a way that gives PlayStation a substantial promotional presence.
GTA 6 PS5 Features Extend Beyond the Controller
Sony has also highlighted how Rockstar Games is using other PlayStation hardware features. According to a PlayStation Blog post, Tempest 3D AudioTech will provide more precise positional sound across Vice City and Leonida.
The PS5's high-speed SSD is also expected to support near-instant loading across the game's large open world. Those points sit alongside the controller features and reinforce Sony's broader attempt to present PS5 as a preferred place to experience GTA 6.
Sony has repeatedly described PS5 as the 'best place to play', according to a source, but that remains a marketing position rather than an independently established comparison with Xbox hardware.
GTA 6 Platform Question Grows Ahead of Launch
For players deciding where to buy GTA 6, the distinction is therefore between confirmed PlayStation-specific features and the wider question of whether they amount to a meaningfully different experience.
Sony can point to DualSense feedback, adaptive triggers, controller audio, Tempest 3D AudioTech and SSD-related loading claims. None of those details, on their own, establish that Xbox has been sidelined in development.
Sony's campaign has given PS5 a prominent role in the game's pre-release marketing through limited-edition hardware and platform-specific feature announcements. However, those promotional claims do not establish that the Xbox version will offer an inferior experience. Direct comparisons between the PS5 and Xbox versions will be possible once both console versions are available.
