Woman Says God Warned Her After Truck Crash That Knowing Jesus Was Not Enough To Save Her

A 61-year-old woman has detailed a harrowing near-death experience following a severe bicycle collision in Michigan when she was just 18 years old, and she believed God warned her that simply knowing Jesus was not enough to save her.

Speaking during a wide-ranging interview on the God Encounters with Janie DuVall broadcast, LuAnn VanBuskirk claimed that being clipped by a truck at a four-way turn thrust her out of her physical body and directly into a profound spiritual realm.

VanBuskirk believed dark, gnarly entities grabbed her and dragged her toward a fog-shrouded city resembling hell before a thunderous divine voice intervened.

VanBuskirk recalled being thrown hard to the ground, then appearing to look down on the crash scene from above before entering what she understood to be a spiritual encounter involving God, evil and the consequences of her past choices.

VanBuskirk said she saw what she described as 'gnarly' fingers wrapped around her arm and felt herself being pulled somewhere against her will.

She recalled being taken towards a city covered in yellow fog, an experience she interpreted as evil, and said she feared she was being dragged towards Hell.

According to her account, the scene changed when thunder cracked, and she heard a sound unlike anything she had heard before. Although she did not describe the voice in ordinary terms, she said she understood it to be God.

VanBuskirk said she was confronted over having mocked God's word and was shown what she believed would happen if she did not accept him into her life. She said she initially resisted the message, prompting the response, 'My word says.'

God Warning Challenged Her Claim That She Knew Jesus

VanBuskirk said the encounter forced her to reflect on her drinking and marijuana use at the time. She said she came to believe she was 'going to hell based on my own free will choices'.

She recalled responding that she knew Jesus. The voice, she said, answered with the same thunderous force she had heard earlier, a sound she described as shaking her intensely.

'Even the very demons believe in Jesus. How do you say you do better?' she recalled the voice saying.

VanBuskirk described that exchange as the 'moment of truth that I could not argue'. She said she was then confronted with her sins one by one and given an opportunity to accept God. In her telling, the encounter did not end there.

She said God turned away before she experienced what she described as spiritual pain within her physical body.

That experience, she said, changed the way she thought about faith. Before the crash, VanBuskirk recalled asking why God would allow painful things to happen if he were real. Afterwards, she said she began to believe.

VanBuskirk also described later events that she interpreted as signs. She said she met a born-again Christian named John, whom she believed was John the Baptist, and later met a nun whom she believed was Mary.

After running away from home, she said she met relatives on her father's side, including a Christian uncle and his wife, who took her in. That period brought her into closer contact with Christian teaching and, by her account, gave the experience a lasting place in her life.

VanBuskirk said that when she eventually heard the gospel, she felt a 'string' pulling her toward God. Her account centres on the crash as the turning point, not because she says she had never heard of Jesus, but because she came to believe that recognition alone was not the same as commitment.
