Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Luke Skywalker will reportedly tell Rey that she contains 'the spark' in the upcoming trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/YouTube

While Star Wars: The Force Awakens welcomed a whole bunch of well-received new characters into the franchise, such as baddie Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and heroes Finn (John Boyega) and Rey (Daisy Ridley), part of its charm was its ability to mix fan favourites like Leia and Han Solo in with the action. Unfortunately for Luke Skywalker lovers though, Mark Hamill didn't show up until the very end of the film and he didn't even manage a line...

A place you may hear him squeeze dialogue in, however, is the first trailer for upcoming sequel Star Wars: Episode VIII, if recent online reports are to be believed. The now-reclusive Jedi will reportedly address Rey in the clip, saying: "You contain the spark that will rekindle the fire."

The information was shared widely by YouTuber Mike Zeroh, who claims to have heard about the news from multiple sources. Zeroh doesn't name any of his said sources, mind you, so it's far from official just yet. Only time will tell whether this line does actually appear in the film's first sneak peek, when it lands sometime in early 2017.

While it will obviously be exciting to hear Skywalker talk in the new outings for the first time, the line itself and who he says it to also proves interesting. With The Force Awakens giving away almost nothing about her backstory, Rey remains an enigma when it comes to her lineage and fans are desperate to know more about who she is and where she comes from. In the film, she had an obvious connection to Skywalker's lightsaber and the Force, so it'll be great if Episode VIII explores her power and how that will influence the ongoing battle between the First Order and The Resistance.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently slated to reach both US and UK cinemas on 15 December 2017. As well as Hamill, Driver, Boyega and Ridley, other returning cast members include Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis, who lent his voice to computer-generated character, and Ren's big boss, Supreme Leader Snoke.
