Tom Holland Dethrones Zoe Saldana To Become Highest Grossing Actor Ever With Historic $15B Record at 30

Tom Holland is now the highest-grossing actor in film history. The 30-year-old British star has overtaken Zoe Saldana with roughly $15.5 billion (£11.5 billion) in global ticket sales, becoming the youngest performer ever to top the all-time list.

His total edged past Saldana's roughly $15.46 billion (£11.4 billion) on 13 September, capping one of the fastest climbs the modern box office has seen. Saldana had worn the crown for barely eight months after taking it from Scarlett Johansson in January.

Two 2026 Films Did the Damage

The record rests on two films still running in cinemas. 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has grossed about $2.46 billion (£1.82 billion) worldwide, the third-highest-grossing release ever behind 'Avatar' and 'Avengers: Endgame'.

Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey', in which Holland plays Telemachus, has passed $1.68 billion (£1.24 billion). Universal Pictures confirmed the epic as its biggest film ever and the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history, overtaking a record that stood since 2015.

He Passed His Own Mentor

The climb carried a detail few have flagged. On his way to number one, Holland overtook Robert Downey Jr, whose Iron Man mentored his Peter Parker across five Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Downey's leading roles have earned about $14.3 billion (£10.6 billion). Holland also cleared Chris Pratt and Samuel L. Jackson in roughly a month, having sat sixth on the list as recently as August with about $13.6 billion (£10.1 billion).

The speed of the shift has surprised even seasoned industry watchers. The Economist noted this week that Holland has become one of the most bankable young stars Hollywood has produced in years, and pointed to lessons other actors could draw from his rise.

Franchise Power Over Star Power

The numbers show how completely franchise ownership now decides who rules the box office. Across 24 leading roles, Holland averages $622.1 million (£461 million) a film, the highest of anyone in the current top 10, ahead of Pratt's $522.7 million (£387 million) and Saldana's $468.8 million (£347 million). He reached the summit with far fewer films than his rivals. Nine of the top 10 actors built their fortunes partly on Marvel roles, showing how much one dominant studio has single-handedly shaped and dictated the trajectory of the earnings chart.

It marks a blunt shift in how Hollywood mints its biggest earners, rewarding actors tied to owned characters rather than those who sell tickets on their name alone.

Why the Record Could Keep Growing

For American audiences, the milestone lands as 'Brand New Day' closes on a domestic record. The film has reached about $935 million (£692 million) in North America, within striking distance of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' and its $936.66 million (£694 million), the biggest domestic haul ever.

Holland reportedly earned $20 million (£14.8 million) upfront for the film, with backend deals that could lift his pay beyond $100 million (£74 million). With both releases still selling tickets, his lead looks set to widen before Saldana or Johansson can answer back.

Holland's slate could stretch the gap further. He has an untitled Fred Astaire biopic with director Paul King, a starring and producing turn in an adaptation of John Grisham's 'The Partner', and a racing drama, 'American Speed', with Austin Butler.
