Tommy Elphick, one of the six professional footballers arrested and then bailed over an inquiry into allegations of sexual assault, has been eliminated from the investigation following police enquiries.

The 24-year-old Brighton and Hove Albion player was arrested alongside five teammates.

Sussex Police are investigating a sexual attack on a woman in July but the club has said that police will take no further action against Elphick.

The BBC reported that one of the suspects was Anton Rodgers, 18, the son of Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers.

The other players included Lewis Dunk, 20, George Barker, 20 and Ben Sampayo, 19, said the BBC.The Brighton Argus also named the suspects.

Ex-Brighton player Steve Cook, who moved to AFC Bournemouth earlier this year, was also arrested and then bailed.

The players have been released on bail until 21 March.

They were arrested the day after Brighton manager Gus Poyet led the Seagulls to a 2-1 win over non-league Wrexham.
