Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly weighing up a move for Valencia striker Roberto Soldado.
The 28-year-old was in impressive form for Los Che last season, scoring 28 goals from 35 La Liga appearances, which earned him a Spain call-up for the Confederations Cup. And, according to The Sun, Andre Villas-Boas is now keen on snapping up the player this summer.
Spurs have already clinched the signature of Brazil and Corinthians midfielder Paulinho in a £17m deal and are now switching their attention to improving the attack. Emmanuel Adebayor is expected to make way for a new forward and the report claims the Togo international could now move to Besiktas, if the Turks shell out £5m.
Tottenham are ready to offer £15m for Soldado but Valencia are expecting a figure close to £25m for the in-form player. The Spaniards are facing serious financial problems, with the construction of a new stadium remaining suspended for years. However, they are determined to not lose their prized assets on cut-price deals.
"We have suffered money problems but not so significantly that we will release players on the cheap," Valencia president Amadeo Salvo Lillo said.
Soldado's contract is understood to contain a release clause in the region of £26m.
Meanwhile, Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby stated he enjoyed his debut season in the Premier League and hailed the quality of his team-mates.
The 22-year-old, who moved to White Harte Lane form Schalke in January, made 17 appearances for the club in all competitions last season. The player then went on to captain Germany in the recently concluded European U-21 Championships.
"I really enjoyed playing with the lads. There is so much quality here and it's a fight for places because the whole squad is so competitive. It's so enjoyable playing football with these guys," Holtby said.
"We meet for pre-season and then go to Hong Kong and that will be important. It's a chance to get to know everyone a bit more and (a trip like) that was the only thing I missed when I joined. I just jumped straight in!" the midfielder added.
