Victoria Beckham was in tears when she won Designer Brand of The Year at the British Fashion Awards.

The former Spice Girl and fashion designer accepted her award with modesty and profusely thanked her team behind the Victoria Beckham label.

"I would like to thank the British fashion industry for your support, I'd like to thank my team, you all know who you are, your focus, your creativity - Simon Fuller, my parents, my kids and my husband. Without him I wouldn't have had the courage to do what I am doing," she said in her acceptance speech.

Beckham looked exquisite, dressed in a black backless floor length halter neck dress, with her hair slicked back into a low, full bun. The former Spice Girl beat nominees Tom Ford, Burberry and Stella McCartney to secure the coveted award, cementing her as a serious player in the fashion industry.

On Beckham's win, the British Fashion Awards website said: "Her business has focused growth strategy with each new product range receiving media praise and achieving high levels of sell through. She is her own customer and this insight has created a label with many loyal followers across the globe."

During a backstage interview after she received the prestigious accolade, Beckham commented on how the award was "such a big deal" for her.

She also said she could not thank her team enough and that "without them I wouldn't be in this position".

"I always dreamed this would happen one day... it really is a dream come true," she said on winning the award.
