Wenger says League Cup is still important
Arsenal travel to Reading in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup tonight, and manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that his side will be going all out to secure victory. Wenger recently ranked Arsenal's top five priorities this season, putting winning the League Cup last behind winning the Premier League, the Champions League, qualifying for the Champions League and winning the FA Cup. Despite this Wenger said that Arsenal were looking to succeed in the domestic cup competitions as well as in the league and Europe.
"What we do is we try to fight as hard as we can to stay in all the five as long as we can and if you have to make a choice you make it as late as possible. It, it is, for example, Capital One Cup is in a period of a scene where you have to sometimes make decisions, choices -- Championship, Champions League -- but we want to win, of course. But I just gave a frank and honest opinion about how I think, where I think priorities are, but of course ideally you want to deal well with all the five"
It has now been seven years since Arsenal last won a trophy, an FA Cup final win over Manchester United in 2005. Since then the closest the Gunners have come was in the League Cup, when they lost 2-1 to Birmingham in 2011.
In the other league Cup matches tonight include Leeds take on Southampton, Sunderland play Middleborough, Swindon host Aston Villa and Wigan play Bradford.
