Quinton Dixon was a middle school counsellor trusted with guiding young lives, until allegations of inappropriate messages shattered his professional standing and triggered a police investigation. Within days of being placed on leave, and on the very same day an arrest warrant was issued, Dixon was found dead at an abandoned school campus in Baton Rouge.

Dixon, 44, worked as a guidance counsellor at Westdale Middle School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As part of his role, he interacted closely with students and families, offering academic and personal support during crucial years of development.

Colleagues and community members knew him not only through his counselling role but also through involvement in school activities, including football coaching.

That public image began to unravel in mid January when the East Baton Rouge Parish School System placed Dixon on administrative leave. The district confirmed it acted after receiving allegations that Dixon had sent suggestive messages to a fourteen year old girl who had previously been a student at Westdale Middle School.

School officials stressed they take such matters seriously and immediately launched internal procedures in line with district policy.

At the time of his death, Dixon remained officially on leave from his position.

Claims of Grooming

According to police records and court documents cited by local media, the allegations involve a series of Instagram messages allegedly sent between early November and early January. Investigators claim Dixon offered the teenage girl lifts home from school, asked if she had a boyfriend, and repeatedly commented on her appearance, including calling her attractive.

The messages first surfaced after an anonymous whistleblower shared screenshots on social media. The same individual also provided the alleged messages to both the school system and law enforcement, prompting parallel investigations.

Baton Rouge Police later stated the content of the messages was consistent with grooming behaviour in pursuit of an intimate relationship with a minor. Based on the investigation, authorities issued an arrest warrant charging Dixon with four counts of indecent behaviour with juveniles, a felony under Louisiana law.

The warrant was issued on Wednesday. Dixon never appeared before a court.

Discovery at an Abandoned School Campus

Later that same day, police made a grim discovery. Dixon's body was found inside the cafeteria area of the abandoned and largely demolished Glen Oaks Middle School on Monarch Avenue. The campus has been shuttered for years and sits vacant.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office confirmed the individual found was Dixon and that the death was the result of a self inflicted gunshot wound. While the coroner released no further details, Baton Rouge Police confirmed the death was a suicide.

News of the discovery spread quickly across Baton Rouge, intensifying shock within the school community and beyond. For many, the timing of the death, coming just hours after the warrant was issued, added to the sense of disbelief and distress.

Reactions From Officials

Following the confirmation of Dixon's death, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System released a brief statement expressing sympathy. 'We extend our condolences to the school community, family and loved ones as they process this information during this difficult time,' the statement read. Officials added they could not share further details out of respect for student privacy and the integrity of ongoing matters.

Those who had worked with Dixon described the situation as deeply troubling. Redell Norman, who said he coached football alongside Dixon, told local station WBRZ that the circumstances were heartbreaking. 'It's unfortunate the circumstances of his untimely demise. I did know him and the situation is just so unfortunate. We just got to pray for everybody,' he said.

The case has left unresolved questions. The allegations against Dixon were never tested in court, and investigators have said the criminal case effectively ends with his death. For the school community, however, the impact continues, marked by grief for a life lost, concern for student safety, and lingering unease over how quickly a trusted role can collapse under serious accusations.
