Mason Noise was eliminated from The X Factor in week four of the ITV competition YouTube

He was the show's most controversial contestant and Mason Noise is still causing a stir. Not only did the former X Factor hopeful decide not to attend the ITV competition's grand final, but he appeared to make a dig at One Direction singer Liam Payne, who performed during the live episode.

Previous contestants from the X Factor's 12th series, including Che Chesterman, Seann Miley Moore and Anton Stephans, appeared during the finale on 13 December 2015 before watching Louisa Johnson crowned as the winner after beating Reggie n Bollie to the title. However, Noise was not in attendance at London's Wembley Arena where the live episode took place, and instead shared a cryptic message on Twitter, which read: "I stand for what I believe in #AWE."

The aspiring singer then took to Instagram to mock 1D star Payne, who sang a medley of hits alongside his band-mates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. Alongside a photo of him and the boy band member from earlier in the series, Noise wrote: "One of the highlights of my experience, meeting one of Harry Styles backing singers @onedirection#XfactorFinal #onedirection."

Needless to say, Noise received a flurry of backlash from One Direction fans, including one who commented under the picture: "What do you know. You're just an attention seeking idiot who is trying to be like Kanye West. First of all One Direction are the best, and second of all, you aren't Kanye and never will be!" One upset Directioner added: "Your comment isn't even funny it's ignorant and obnoxious," while another said in reference to Payne: "He's better than you'll ever be."

Noise exited the competition in week four of the live shows ranking in seventh place after landing in the bottom three with Stephans and 4th Impact. The Birmingham-native had become the most unpopular contestant during the series after getting into a spat with show boss Simon Cowell.
