Simon Cowell believes his life would be much simpler, if he was gay.

Simon Cowell has revealed that he wishes he was gay.

The music mogul, who is expecting his first child with New York socialite Lauren Silverman, said that his life would be easier if he were attracted to men because the women in his life have cost him so much money.

Although the X Factor supremo was famed for being generous towards the women in his life, he admitted that his fondness for brunettes had left a dent in his bank account. He previously dated TV presenter Terri Seymour, pop singer Sinitta and make-up artist Mezhgan Hussainy in a long line of women.

In an interview with Terri Seymour, Cowell claimed he would probably be richer if he had not splashed the cash on lavish gifts for his exes.

Asked if he had ever feared bankruptcy, he said: ''Yes, particularly when I've had girlfriends like you lot!

''I said to someone the other day that I wish I had been born gay. I would have saved a fortune.''

In April, Cowell was forced to address ongoing rumours about his sexuality.

"I couldn't care less [if people think I'm gay] because it's nothing to be ashamed of," he told the Radio Times. " It feels like such an antiquated question now.

"I work in possibly the gayest industry in the world - music and TV. It would make no difference to my life or my career. A lot of my friends are gay, but I'm not and don't even think that way any more."

Meanwhile, Cowell also revealed that he does not plan to leave his unborn child any money in his will. He said that although he would be a strong father figure to his child, he was not giving away any hand-outs.

He said he was determined not to raise a spoilt child who would grow up saying: "I don't have to work because my dad's Simon Cowell."
