A couple of photos of the successor to Sony's current Xperia Z2 as well as its compact version have leaked.

The XperiaBlog, quoting the Spanish site Digi-wo, reports the low resolution photos of Sony's upcoming Xperia Z3 and its compact version dubbed Xperia Z3 Compact, do not reveal much but show only the front panels.

Besides, the leak confirms the existence of the Xperia Z3 Compact. If the rumour turns true, then Sony will continue its OmniBalance design for the next gen Xperia Z series smartphones.

Sony is expected to unveil the Xperia Z3 at the IFA 2014 technology trade fair, where Samsung is also likely to reveal its fourth generation Galaxy Note, widely known as Galaxy Note 4.

Indications are that the Xperia Z3 might be launched at IFA as prior to the leak, recognised XDA developer DooMLoRD had also mentioned that the new Xperia Z series handset could be released in September.

The Sony Xperia Z3 is said to be thinner than the Xperia Z2, featuring a thickness of 7mm. It will use the quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor which also powers a number of high-end smartphones such as Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2.

Among other rumoured specifications are 1080p display, 3GB RAM and a 20.7 megapixel rear camera.
