Donald Trump Jr has been criticised after sharing an image of himself with a cookie that appeared to contain an image of Barack Obama.

Trump shared the photo on his Instagram account in the early hours of Monday morning (18 December). It shows himself holding the cookie while stood alongside the Texas senator Ted Cruz.

The cookie in question has what appears to be a distorted image of Barack Obama, iced onto the top.

Trump's photo caption read: "With friends like these... some good friends decided that while my birthday is not for 2 weeks that they would get me an early 40th birthday cake. And what birthday is complete without an Obama cake? I figured it was so good that I would have to share it with Ted."

The eldest son of the US president, Trump was criticised for the image on his account with many negative comments attacking him.

Michael Patsos said: "Trump family continues to prove that money does not buy class..."

Some also mocked Trump's attempt to make fun of Obama by suggesting that the image looked "more like Forest Whittaker" than the former president.

While Jo Marshall said: "My god you are an awful person."

And UFGoldenGirl wrote: "Wow. 44[Obama] never did and never would behave this way toward an opponent. And you're not even that. I assume you're just getting it all out before prison?"

It comes after Trump Jr faced several hours of committee hearings last week as they investigated further into allegations of collusion between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign.
