Advent Vega Tegra Note

Advent, which claims its Vega Tegra Note 7-inch tablet is the fastest 7-inch slate around, has made a tempting offer by announcing a price of £180 for the slate.

However, retailer Curry's has sweetened the deal by offering the slate for a shocking £129. The wallet-friendly tablet's price cut is now allowing the retailer to make an offer that customers can't refuse.

For everyone looking for a cheap tablet this Christmas, or those looking for gift options, this deal is worth considering.

Specifications

What is the hardware that backs Advent's claim? The slate, which was developed in association with Nvidia, uses a peppy Nvidia Tegra 4 processor and sports a quad-core Cortex A15 CPU. There's also a nifty fifth low-intensity core which basically takes care of everyday tasks to save on battery life. Nvidia has also been generous enough to throw in a 72-core Geforce Graphics Processing Unit.

For imaging, the slate has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter for video calls. The slate comes loaded with the Nvidia Direct Stylus software, which is a huge plus, apart from Nvidia PureAudio sound technology, which powers its front-facing stereo speakers.

On the connectivity front, there is microUSB, microHDMI out, Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi Connectivity.

Is it really the fastest?

The slate has enough and more firepower to score better benchmarks against competing devices like Google's Nexus 7. It is great for playing games and excels in delivering on basic tasks. However, it is worth noting that the Nexus 7 offers a much better screen than Tegra Note.

Should you buy it?

If you are on a tight budget for a 7-inch Android slate, then you should definitely consider this option. Also, given the price cut, it is the best that you decide quickly, as there is no information as to how long the deal will last.
