The Ministry of Defence (MoD) will release top secret files that could prove that aliens visited the UK in 1983.

UFO hunters believe that the secret documents dubbed as 'The British X-Files' could prove that around 30 years ago an alien craft landed in Suffolk.

Yahoo UK has claimed that the files may confirm that aliens visited Rendlesham Forest in 1983, when US Army personnel stationed near Rendlesham in Suffolk, saw a strange glowing metal triangle which was "dripping molten metal" - and witnessed a light like a "huge red eye".

At the time, it was claimed that a strange object illuminated the entire forest and stayed there for approximately an hour. The object was again spotted flying over the same forest the following night.

The government is likely to release 18 files that would prove the sightings of unidentified flying objects during that particular period.

In 2013, the MoD planned to make the documents public, but later postponed the release citing "additional processing requirements", which prompted researchers to speculate a cover-up.

Later, Lord Black of Brentwood and UFO researchers started a campaign to declassify the top secret files, to which MoD agreed and declared that the files will be released to the National Archives by March 2016, RT Network reported.

Lieutenant colonel Charles Halt described the mysterious sighting in a memo to the MoD, which reads: "It illuminated the entire forest with a white light. The object itself had a pulsing red light on top and a bank(s) of blue lights underneath. The object was hovering or on legs.

"As the patrolmen approached the object, it maneuvered through the trees and disappeared. At this time the animals on a nearby farm went into a frenzy. The object was briefly sighted approximately an hour later near the back gate."

The Rendlesham Forest UFO sighting is one of the most well-known cases in the UK.
