Android 4.4.4 OTA Update Rolls Out for HTC One M7 and M8 GPE

HTC has started rolling out the new Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA update for One M7 and M8 Google Play Edition (GPE) devices, following its official roll out of Android 4.4.3 KitKat firmware just a few weeks ago.

According to Android Geeks, the new Android 4.4.4 update brings a host of security fixes, improved stability, UI changes and bug-fixes for battery life issues on the GPE variants of HTC One smartphones.

Some of the key security changes added to the new KitKat update include currency bug fix for OpenSSLHeartbleed Test, Block access to java.lang.Object.getClass in injected Java objects, CTS tests for OpenSSL's early CCS issue, and CTS test for Heartbleed Vulnerability in SSLSocket.

As the new Android 4.4.4 update is being rolled out in phases, it may take some time before it is available for download in your country or region.

Anxious HTC One GPE users, however, can manually check for new Android updates by navigating to Settings > About Phone > System Updates and tapping the Check Now button.

There is some good news for owners of regular HTC One M7 and M8, as these models are expected to receive Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA update some time later in July or August, followed by the Android 5.0 'L' update in the next 90 days.

Various reports also suggest that HTC One mini 2, HTC One E8 and HTC One mini M4 are likely to receive the new Android 4.4.4 update in August.

Though the new update may not feature any major visual changes for your HTC One, it brings critical security fixes and feature enhancements in a tiny file weighing just 20MB.

Here is what the company stated about its Android 4.4.4 software roll out, in a recent press release:

"HTC Customers and Enthusiasts, HTC is excited about the new features in Android L release and we can't wait to share them with you. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible as part of our HTC Advantage program.

"We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 worldwide within 9 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices. HTC Advantage protects your smartphone investment, ensuring you have the best smartphone experience long after purchase."
