Several plot rumours on the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron ending has surfaced on the internet.

When asked about the movie ending, Director Joss Whedon jokingly commented that the film will involve "Death, death, and death."

A report in Comicbookmovie speculated on Joss Whedon's inclination towards writing off main characters, which also earned him the title of TV's grim reaper.

But which Avengers will bite the dust is a heavily debatable topic.

Captain America - The Fallen Hero?

In a few promotional pictures released by Marvel, the Captain America shield has a crack in it. According to moviepilot, "There is nothing ominous about that, were it not for one key factor - the near indestructible shield was broken, cracked into pieces."

Also, there are rumours of captain America retiring after Avengers 2, with some suggesting that Steve Rogers will hand off the Captain America shield to Bucky or Falcon.

But Chris Evans recently said, "Who's handing off the shield? Don't take my job from me prematurely dude!"

Evans added, "I'm sure it'll happen at some point, all good things have to come to an end. But I'm really happy playing the character, and I'm honored to be a part of the Marvel Universe for now."

Iron Man and Hulk showdown - to death?

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr has, in a way, declared his exit from the Marvel films by confirming that Iron Man 4 "is not in the pipeline" which effectively means Avengers 2 will be his last Marvel movie.

Also, Joss Whedon has teased a major showdown between Hulk and Iron Man in the movie. Will they fight to death?

A report in Inquisitr came up with a new theory on the Hulk-Iron Man fight.

"Another possibility is that Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), the civilian in the Iron Man suit, will die. This would be ironic after finally getting the chest piece and shrapnel removed at the end of Iron Man 3. However, it isn't that unlikely since it was revealed that the Hulkbuster armor would make its debut in Age of Ultron. Mark Ruffalo is signed on for at six more movies, so the Hulk is highly unlikely to get the proverbial ax. This means Tony Stark might lose his fight with Hulk despite the suit."

According to rumours, others who could possibly die in the Avengers 2 plot include Black Widow, Nick Fury, and Hawkeye.

Nick Fury already faked his death in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so the next movie may just make his death permanent.

Hawkeye actor Jeremy Renner recently said that he is not interested in a solo film, but that doesn't say much about whether he will die. The new characters in Avengers 2 - Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch - aren't likely to get killed off in their first major appearance.

Another theory that might fit with the plot rumours is that when Joss Whedon spoke about "Death, Death and Death", he means Thanos, and the death of the universe itself.

Movie pilot stated, "We all know Thanos is coming, most likely in The Avengers 3, and it is believed he is after the Infinity Gauntlet, which would give him the power to destroy the entire universe."
