Chinese Woman Allegedly Kills Roommate Over Loud Gaming as Tearful Bloodstained Video Goes Viral

A bloodstained video showing a tearful woman posing for the camera has sparked rumours of a fatal confrontation inside a Chinese university dormitory, with online claims alleging that a roommate was killed over loud mobile gaming.

The footage, which was reportedly first posted on Douyin before spreading to X, formerly Twitter, appears to show a woman with blood on her arms using a distorted filter that enlarges her eyes and lips. She then appears to become emotional in front of the camera, fuelling online speculation that the recording was made after a violent incident.

The video has circulated alongside claims that a female university student stabbed her roommate after becoming angry about the noise from mobile gaming.

Posts circulating online allege that a fruit knife was used during the confrontation, although the location, identities of those involved and circumstances surrounding the alleged killing have not been established.

Douyin, ByteDance's Chinese short-video platform, is separate from TikTok and is widely used for short-form video, livestreaming and social commerce in China.

The clip appears to show the woman with bloodstains on her right hand and arm as she makes several poses using the filter before crying, but the footage itself does not establish that a killing took place.

Another alleged video, said to have been uploaded to Kuaishou, reportedly showed footage from the scene. Kuaishou is another popular Chinese app for creating, sharing and watching short videos and livestreams, but the authenticity and origin of the alleged scene footage have not been independently established.

However, there has been no official confirmation of the alleged killing in the material reviewed for this report. International Business Times UK could not independently verify the authenticity of the video, its original source or the claims accompanying it.

Social Media Users React to the Viral Video

The footage has prompted a divided reaction online, with some users expressing shock while others questioned whether it depicts a genuine crime.

Some commenters claimed the woman's reaction was consistent with the aftermath of a violent incident, while others questioned whether the injuries visible on her arm could have been self-inflicted.

Others went further, suggesting the video may have been fabricated or generated using AI. One commenter wrote, 'Utterly fake news.

Chinese people have no idea this even happened, and no Chinese media has reported on it. Relying on an unclear special effect and a chat screenshot simply cannot prove that this event took place.'

2016 Sichuan Dormitory Murder Raised Campus Safety Concerns

There is also a documented case from 2016 involving the killing of a university roommate in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Police confirmed that a student identified by the surname Teng was detained after allegedly killing his roommate, identified as Lu, at Sichuan Normal University in Chengdu.

Lu had reportedly argued with Teng the previous day after Teng objected to Lu singing in their dormitory, but two other roommates intervened and helped the pair make amends.

Teng later returned to the dormitory, asked Lu to accompany him to a nearby study room and subsequently asked the other roommates to call police before returning to the study room.

Lu was reported to have suffered more than 50 stab wounds and had been beheaded, according to his cousin cited by People's Daily. The case was reported alongside concerns over violence arising from conflicts between university roommates.

People's Daily also cited the 2004 killing of four roommates by Yunnan University student Ma Jiajue and the 2013 poisoning of Fudan University student Huang Yang by his roommate Lin Senhao. These cases were cited in the context of concerns over violence between university roommates.

The latest viral video, however, remains unverified. There is no official evidence establishing that a Chinese university student killed her roommate over gaming noise or that the woman shown in the footage was involved in a killing.
