British actor Hugh Grant has become a father for the first time after his former girlfriend, Tinglan Hong, gave birth to a baby girl Sept. 26.

According to the Daily Mail, Grant's ex-flame had a Caesarean section at Portland Hospital in London, and was registered there under the alias "Sophie" Hong. It is speculated that Hong's pregnancy became known in April.

"The Four Weddings and a Funeral" actor began dating the Chinese actress in January, when they were seen kissing at a pub in Fulham, London. The pair were also spotted out with friends at a Vietnamese cocktail bar close to Grant's £3.5 million London home. The Mirror reported that Tinglan was rumored to be pregnant after she was seen with a rounded tummy and refusing alcohol.

According to sources, Grant is no longer with the baby's mother. Sources close to the actor insist he is "fully supportive" of her and has pledged to be a good father. "I can confirm that Hugh Grant is the delighted father of a baby girl. He and the mother had a fleeting affair and while this was not planned, Hugh could not be happier or more supportive. He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms," Grant's spokeswoman said in an e-mail to Reuters. The identity of the mother was not disclosed, nor were the details of the couple's relationship in the statement.

According to the Daily Mail, Grant was not present at the birth but briefly visited the mother and child the day after she was born -- for all of a half-hour -- before heading to a golf tournament.

This is the first child for the 51-year-old "Bridget Jones" actor, who has had previous high-profile relationships with model Elizabeth Hurley and British socialite Jemima Khan.

Last September – after turning 50 – Grant declared he "should settle down," adding that he wished he had already had some children.
