Presley Gerber, the model and only son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died on Sunday, 20 September, aged 27.

Gerber died at a rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles, according to records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. His death followed years in which he had spoken publicly about drug addiction, mental health and treatment while pursuing a modelling career that began in his teens. His cause of death has not yet been released.

'The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,' a representative for Crawford, Rande and their daughter Kaia Gerber said.

Who Was Presley Gerber and How Did His Modelling Career Start?

Born in California in 1999, Presley Walker Gerber grew up alongside younger sister Kaia in one of fashion's best-known families.

Like his mother and sister, Gerber began modelling at a young age. He signed with IMG Models at 15 and later walked the runways for fashion houses including Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry and Bottega Veneta. He also worked on campaigns and editorials as his career developed.

His connection to Crawford occasionally became part of his work.

In 2018, the pair recreated elements of her famous 1992 Pepsi advertisement for a Super Bowl campaign, with Crawford later recalling how proud she was watching her son work.

Gerber Spoke Openly About Addiction and Mental Health

Away from fashion, Gerber increasingly discussed his struggles with substance use and mental health.

In 2019, he pleaded no contest following a DUI arrest in Beverly Hills and received three years' probation, community service and a DUI programme. His disclosures became more detailed in December 2025.

In a since-deleted Instagram video, Gerber said he had seen around 15 psychiatrists and discussed taking medications including opioids, benzodiazepines, antidepressants and blood-pressure medication. He said he was sharing his experiences partly so others facing similar problems would know they were not alone.

Gerber had expressed a similar goal during a 2023 appearance on the Studio 22 podcast, saying he wanted his experiences and mistakes to help people struggling with depression or other problems.

Only weeks before his death, Kaia spoke publicly about the effect her brother's addiction had on their family.

In Vogue's September 2026 cover story, his struggles were described as spanning a decade. Kaia said the situation 'kind of levels everyone' and explained that she had come to see herself as the 'easy one', reluctant to ask their parents for help because she felt the family was already carrying enough.

She also praised her brother's willingness to discuss what he was experiencing publicly, describing him as someone who was prepared to be 'very human for everyone'.

Gerber's dating life also attracted attention as his modelling profile grew. Over the years, he publicly dated models and influencers including Cayley King, Charlotte D'Alessio, Cameron Rorrison, Lexi Wood and Hana Cross.
