Eligible Cash App claimants could receive reimbursement of up to $2,500 for qualifying out-of-pocket losses under a $15 million class-action settlement involving allegations of data-security incidents, unauthorised transactions, and deficiencies in error resolution.

The deadline to submit claims passed on 18 November 2024, meaning only claimants whose timely, valid claims were approved can receive payments.

The settlement involves Block, Inc. and Cash App Investing, LLC, which agreed to resolve the lawsuit without admitting wrongdoing. The settlement does not constitute a finding of liability, and the defendants deny the allegations.

What the Cash App Settlement Is About

The lawsuit alleged security failures, unauthorised access to customer accounts, and shortcomings in resolving payment disputes. According to the complaint, a former Cash App Investing employee accessed account data without permission in 2022, while an unauthorised individual used recycled phone numbers linked to certain Cash App accounts to gain access in 2023.

Plaintiffs also alleged that Block and Cash App Investing failed to implement appropriate security controls and adequately address complaints about unauthorised or fraudulent transactions.

Who Qualifies for the $15 Million Cash App Settlement

The $15 million Cash App settlement covers eligible current and former customers of Cash App and/or Cash App Investing, including customers of their affiliates, parents or subsidiaries, whose personal information or accounts were accessed without authorisation, who experienced unauthorised or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers, or who encountered deficiencies in error resolution involving Cash App or linked financial accounts between 23 August 2018 and 20 August 2024.

According to the official settlement website, the court granted final approval on 27 March 2025. However, customers must have submitted a timely, valid claim form to qualify for a settlement payment. The deadline was 18 November 2024, and late claims are no longer being accepted.

How Much Approved Claimants Could Receive

The $15 million Cash App settlement fund does not guarantee every approved claimant a fixed payment. The fund also covers attorneys' fees and costs, a service payment to the class representative, and settlement administration expenses. The amount available to claimants depends on the settlement terms, approved benefits, and qualifying losses.

Eligible claimants could seek up to $2,500 in reimbursement for qualifying out-of-pocket losses supported by third-party documentation. The settlement also provides reimbursement for up to three hours of qualifying lost time at $25 per hour, capped at $75. Separate provisions cover eligible losses from unauthorised transactions, subject to additional documentation requirements.

According to Yahoo Finance, approximately 40,380 claims were approved from more than 667,000 submitted, with reported payouts totalling $5.6 million. That equates to an average of about $139 per approved claim, although individual payments varied.

The $2,500 figure is the maximum reimbursement available under the out-of-pocket-loss category, not a guaranteed payment. Actual awards depend on the applicable benefit category, eligibility requirements, supporting documentation, and settlement terms.

When Will Cash App Settlement Payments Arrive?

The official settlement website says payments to approved claimants are scheduled for October 2026. Claimants should check the website for distribution updates and monitor the payment method they selected when filing their claims. They should also verify payment-related instructions through official settlement channels and be wary of unsolicited requests for personal or financial information.
