Celebrity Traitors Confirms 1 October Return as Michael Sheen, Maya Jama and Richard E. Grant Enter Castle

The Celebrity Traitors will return on 1 October, with Michael Sheen, Maya Jama and Richard E. Grant leading 21 famous faces into a Scottish Highlands castle for a new celebrity edition of the hit BBC deception game.

Claudia Winkleman is back to preside over the series, which will air twice a week on Thursday and Friday evenings on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. A new trailer offers the first glimpse of the stars being thrown together before the game begins, with the familiar atmosphere of suspicion and paranoia already beginning to take hold.

The second series arrives after the first Celebrity Traitors became a major television success, raising expectations for another tense run of secret alliances, betrayals and accusations.

21 Stars Enter the Castle

Sheen, Jama and Grant headline an eclectic group of 21 celebrities spanning acting, comedy, music, television and sport. The cast also includes Bella Ramsey, James Acaster, James Blunt, Jerry Hall, Joanne McNally, Joe Lycett, Julie Hesmondhalgh, King Kenny, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Miranda Hart.

They will be joined by Professor Hannah Fry, Myha'la, Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan, Ross Kemp, Sebastian Croft, Sharon Rooney and Amol Rajan. The mix of personalities gives the second series scope for unexpected friendships, rivalries and clashes as the contestants attempt to work out who they can trust.

As with the original format, some celebrities will be secretly selected as Traitors, while the remaining contestants become Faithfuls. The Faithfuls must identify the Traitors before they are eliminated, while those secretly working against them will have to deceive the group without exposing themselves.

Claudia Winkleman Returns

Winkleman will once again guide the celebrities through the game, as contestants compete in challenges designed to build a prize fund of up to £100,000 for charities of their choice.

The new trailer offers an early look at the psychological battle ahead, showing the celebrities arriving at the castle and being introduced to the rules.

With everyone aware that some of the people around them could secretly be working against them, even seemingly routine interactions could become a source of suspicion.

The pressure will be particularly intense for the Faithfuls, who must make potentially costly decisions at the round table.

A misplaced accusation could send an innocent contestant home, while failing to identify a Traitor could allow the deception to continue.

Ratings Smash Sets the Bar High

The second series has a substantial audience to live up to after the first Celebrity Traitors became one of the BBC's biggest recent entertainment successes. The opening run averaged 14.9 million viewers, while its finale reached 15.4 million, underlining the strong appetite for the celebrity version of the format.

The BBC is also expanding the viewing schedule, with the new series set to air twice a week on Thursday and Friday evenings. The opening episode on 1 October will be extended, giving viewers an early opportunity to see the celebrities settle into the castle before the game begins in earnest.

Extra Shows for Traitors Fans

Fans will also be able to follow the action beyond the main programme through The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked, with Ed Gamble returning to interview eliminated contestants and explore behind-the-scenes moments from the series.

A new Traitor or Faithful? Claudia Decides special will also arrive on BBC iPlayer on launch night, offering further insight into the decisions behind the secret roles.

With Michael Sheen, Maya Jama, Richard E. Grant and 18 other celebrities entering the castle, the key question will be which of them can handle the demands of the game, and which will be the first to discover that fame offers little protection when nobody knows who to trust.
