Charlie Hunnam took a walk down memory lane during a recent trip to Las Vegas and shared details about his first, very hasty wedding with fellow actress Katharine Towne – who he had met at a Dawson's Creek audition– in 1999.

The Sons Of Anarchy actor, who was only 18 at that time, told Associated Press, "First time I was ever in Vegas I got married, which didn't turn out that well. I had known the girl for three weeks. We had fallen madly in love and it was the first time I had ever been in love."

The pair decided to elope before Hunnam had to head back home to England, as he shared, to the outlet, "We thought, 'What if we never see each other again? Let's get married and then we'll have to see each other again even if it's just to get divorced. 'So we came to Vegas, but I couldn't even get a drink so I actually didn't think I would be able to get married."

Hunnam and Towne got married in front of Silver Bell Wedding Chapel Reverend RJ Cotton, in Vegas. The actor admitted, "Three terrible, painful, expensive years. I got the cats at the end of it, so that was good. There was a small victory." The couple's divorce was finalised in 2002 and the 37-year-old has since moved on and have been in a steady relationship with Morgana McNelis for 11 years now.

Hunnam previously revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he didn't communicate with his girlfriend, McNelis, for five months while filming for Lost City of Z in Colombia.

Gushing about his " incredible girlfriend" the actor told the outlet, "A lot of the theme of this film is about the conflict of trying to do what we want for ourselves and our lives and bringing forth our personal aspirations and dreams for ourselves, and the conflict of how that affects the other people in our lives and our other responsibilities. So I just wanted to feel lonely and selfish so it worked. Thankfully, I have an incredible girlfriend who's very, very understanding and supportive of these silly whims that I have."
