Does Hudson Williams Regret Doing Heated Rivalry? Star Unveils Dark Side Of Fame As He Plans 'Exits' From Crowds
Hudson Williams opens up about the loss of privacy and 'disorienting' fame following the massive success of Heated Rivalry.

Hudson Williams, the breakout star of the global hit 'Heated Rivalry', has delivered a raw and vulnerable account of the 'psychological toll' caused by his meteoric rise to A-list status.
Speaking on the Shut Up Evan podcast on 20 January 2026, the 24-year-old Canadian actor revealed that he and co-star Connor Storrie have had to 'learn in 30 days what many actors learn in five years.' In just a few weeks, they spoke at the Golden Globes and walked the runways of Milan Fashion Week.
Despite the show's immense success and a swift Season 2 renewal, Williams admitted that the total erosion of his privacy has left him feeling 'always on defence,' forcing him to mentally map out escape routes during simple daily tasks.
The Heated Rivalry star, who shot from relative obscurity to global recognition in just weeks, said he experienced social anxiety for the first time since ninth grade while simply trying to buy lighter fluid at his Vancouver SkyTrain station. 'It's a different existence now,' Williams said. 'Not based on worth or whatever, quality of human. But it's a different life.'
The series, adapted from Rachel Reid's best-selling Game Changers books, stars Williams as Shane Hollander, a closeted hockey prodigy for the Montreal Voyageurs who enters into a clandestine, decade-long affair with his on-ice rival, Ilya Rozanov, played by Storrie.

The Price Of Perfection: Hudson Williams On Sudden Stardom
Speaking on the podcast with Evan Ross Katz, Williams laid bare the psychological toll of a career that has essentially been fast-tracked. 'I was just talking with one of my agents yesterday, and she said Connor and I have had to learn what a lot of actors get in five years, in like 30 days,' he explained, reflecting on a whirlwind that began when the show launched on Thanksgiving weekend. The six-episode debut season became an instant viral sensation on HBO Max and Crave, leading both networks to greenlight a second season by December 2025.
This quick rise to the A-list has put a lot of professional pressure on them. Williams talked about how hard it is to make high-stakes career decisions, from picking the right scripts to dealing with a 'gruelling' press schedule that leaves little time to think. There are so many options that it's hard to keep track of them all. 'Do I read 10 pages?' Should I just read the log line? Williams asked, explaining how hard it was to give each project the 'full time of day' when he literally didn't have enough hours in the day to read all the scripts that came into his inbox.

Why Hudson Williams Is Retreating From The Crowd
The darker side of this meteoric rise involves a total erosion of privacy that Williams admits has made him feel 'very always on defence'. The actor spoke candidly about the intrusive nature of unsolicited paparazzi photos, noting that such photos—whilst perhaps not 'nefarious'—are rarely welcome. 'That person didn't necessarily want that photo taken,' he mused. 'It doesn't make us feel safe or really like we can disarm.'
This feeling of always being watched has shown up in strange ways. Williams talked about a recent experience at his local Vancouver SkyTrain station. He was dressed casually and just trying to buy lighter fluid when he felt the first signs of social anxiety since he was in school.
He was so scared of the crowds that he started to 'plan my exit' in his head. He used to think this level of scrutiny applied only to global superstars like BTS, but now he knows it all too well. 'There's an element of that's not another human, that's a celebrity,' he said, pointing out how the public's view of him has changed from person to product.
Despite the 'disorienting' nature of his new life, Williams remains at the centre of the zeitgeist. Just this week, he and Storrie made headlines in Feltre, Italy, as official torch-bearers for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics relay, an honour that highlights the show's massive international impact.
