The Fantastic Four: First Steps features two post-credits scenes that are now grabbing headlines. Granted, some fans are looking forward to seeing what storylines they advance for Phase 6 of the MCU after Thunderbolts*. Meanwhile, others are locked on to what the teasers mean for the Russo Brothers' vision for Avengers: Doomsday.

We learned from an interview that the post credit scenes for this film were directed by the Russos. That being said, will viewers get an immediate payoff from the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene?

Post-Credits Scenes Explained

In the spirit of the road to Doomsday, readers are warned that this article will include spoilers. Fantastic Four: First Steps will have a mid-credits scene and post-credits scene.

The mid-credits scene appears after a few minutes when the movie ends and the main credits roll. This scene sets the stage for Doomsday in a manner similar to how Thunderbolts* teased the Fantastic Four.

This scene gives viewers a hint on what's in store for Doomsday, relative to what Galactus arrived on Earth for. It will involve a short teaser with Doctor Doom and newborn Franklin, without revealing Downey yet. All we can say for now is that it's certain to leave viewers wanting more.

Meanwhile, the post-credits scene is more lighthearted, a way for the directors and Marvel fans to have fun. It's a simple moment that closes the film on a good note.

Why the Russo Brothers Directed the Scenes

The last five MCU films that the Russos have directed in have been key parts of a gratifying buildup. For reference, these were Civil War, Infinity War, Endgame, Captain Marvel, and Thunderbolts*.

While the Infinity Saga will be remembered as one of the MCU's biggest triumphs, the build-up after Thunderbolts* has yet to prove itself. The Russos' involvement sets a tone for diving deeper into the Fantastic Four's role in Doomsday.

Fantastic Four: First Steps Director Matt Shakman was asked if it was hard to see the Russos take over. This comes with the context that the last film they directed for Marvel was Endgame.

Fantastic Four Post Credit Scene's DOOMSDAY Connection?! - Director Matt Shakman Interview

'Not at all, especially when I'm handing them off to the Russo brothers who are amazing at what they do and they're lovely, generous people,' said Shakman.

'They were very involved and as we were making this film, they wanted to visit our sets and watch scenes as they were coming together and get to know these characters so they could treat them well,' he added.

Shakman also noted that the Russos do the characters a lot of justice by protecting them. He also likened sharing the project with them to that of a relay race. Everyone manages their own section of the race, and then passes the baton to the next person.

Implications for the MCU's Future

Having the Russos direct the post-credits scenes cements their roles in shaping narratives for crossovers. Having their input applied suggests that Marvel is positioning the Fantastic Four as central figures in the MCU.

Their contribution to the project is certainly driving buzz as The Fantastic Four: First Steps is now showing in the UK.
